On Sunday, we gave an introduction to the music we will play this semester. We talked about the sounds- banjo, harmonica, fiddle- and mentioned a few musicians that we will hear a lot of throughout the year- Gillian Welch, Doc Watson, the Carter Family. Other topics that we discussed were the mountains of eastern Kentucky, the carefree life of the South, the southern accent, and how a duet is a nice way to tell the story of a romance. Our favorite songs from this set are Uncle Earls’s "The Last Goodbye", Alison Krauss’ "I’ll Fly Away", and Loretta Lynn’s "High on a Mountain Top", and we think you should check out these musicians further ! Remember that each of our shows from now on will have a new theme related to Kentucky, so come back to listen again !
